You're probably reading this page because you have received a rejection from our mailing list server after attempting to subscribe to a Boy Genius mailing list using an email address within a banned domain.
Most likely, that means that you're an AOL user. Unfortunately, subscription from America Online email addresses is prohibited. This is due to AOL's combination of a heavy-handed and capricious anti-spam policy with a counterintuitive mail client interface and lack of user education.
When an AOL user presses the "Report As Spam" button - either intentionally or by accident - it generates a spam report to us. We are then required by AOL to remove the user from the mailing list, even though the user specifically requested the subscription via a double opt-in procedure. If we fail to do so, we risk having AOL reject all mail from our mail server, including messages generated by our commercial clients.
In nontechnical terms, we get too many bogus spam reports as a result of legitimate mailing list traffic, and we don't have time to deal with them any more. Therefore, subscription from AOL email addresses is prohibited. If you have any complaints, please contact the AOL postmaster department.
If you would like to subscribe to the mailing list anyway, we recommend that you use a free third-party email service such as Google's Gmail or Yahoo!. Because you access these services via a web browser, you will not need to give up your existing ISP account to use them.
